Yesterday, local Veterans from the Sgt. Joshua D. Desforges VFW Post 3236 Ludlow, MA visited Chapin Street School to spread awareness of the meaning of Veterans Day to all 2nd grade classrooms. This is the 3rd year this partnership with the Ludlow VFW Post 3236 has occurred at their school.

Christine Bassett, (Retired Air Force), George Murray, (Retired Army), Steve Sawyer (Retired Army and Military Order of the Purple Heart), Dolly Sawyer, (Military Order of the Purple Heart supporter) spoke to the students about the reason we celebrate Veterans Day and shared what it means to be in the military. Bassett also read a few different books about Veterans to students, including, Don't Forget, God Bless Our Troops, written by Jill Biden, in each classroom.

In preparation for their visit all Chapin Street students were each given a star to decorate and write the name of a family member that is serving or has served in the military.  The stars are being collected and displayed on a bulletin board in the lobby of the school as a reminder of the important role the military plays in keeping us all safe from harm.
