Ahoy Mateys!  Did you receive a message in a bottle that today, September 19th, is a day to celebrate International Talk Like a Pirate Day?  The 3rd grade, swashbuckling students, in Judi Humphries class at Chapin Street School did -  arriving to school eager to celebrate this fun day of pirate-mania!

Humphries explained that her students have been working hard this month, as good pirates do, on a variety of pirate-themed activities.  Their pirate lessons spread across the curriculum;  exploring their sense of adventure and discovery with several “shiver me timbers” reading and writing activities and even used their map skills in search of hidden treasures.

The student pirates are especially excited about a special project they created for their parents to complete during the upcoming Open House. Humphries is confident that most parents will pass the “kid quiz”, but BEWARE, for those who do not, there will be a plank to walk!

“Me mateys are amazing,” commented Humphries with a pirate’s smile.  “We all had fun celebrating their hard work since the start of school. ARRRRRRRRRGH!”
