With the first blanket of snow covering the ground, as the perfect backdrop, the Chapin Street Chorus dazzled their family and friends with their 2016 Winter Concert on Monday, December 3rd. All in attendance enjoyed the variety of songs performed;  putting them in the holiday spirit.

The chorus was conducted by Chapin Street School Music Teacher, Mrs. Meghan Provost, along with her student teacher, Ms. Bridget  Ambers. This year Provost was excited to announce that there were two different instruments for accompaniment during the concert;  Mrs. Jean Jones on the piano and Ms. Ambers of the Djembe (drum).

“The singers behind me have worked very hard to not only have all their songs memorized, but have learned to sing in different parts and languages’” proudly shared Provost, with the audience, prior to the start of the concert.  “Singing with, and without instruments, is always a great experience for a chorus, and our songs explore just that. We hope that our music will help put you in the holiday spirit and help you enjoy the beauty of the season.”

Provost also wanted to extend a thank you to the families and friends who have been so supportive, stating, “Your dedication to music is greatly appreciated and I hope that your student continues to grow and love music even more.”

Donations were collected to help at the concert to help support the chorus and music program at Chapin Street School.  Provost said that they raised a total of $335.00, which is the second highest amount ever collected. The money will be spent to purchase new instruments and music materials for the students.

The chorus will have another opportunity to perform for the Chapin Street School community during a school-wide concert scheduled for December 15th. As part of a community outreach the school has also reached out to the Ludlow senior center, with an invitation for seniors to join them for this concert.

Below the collage of submitted photos is a list of the songs that were performed during the concert, along with the names of those students who participated in the concert.
